Simple, cheap, and easy. Basically three of my favorite things when it comes to DIY projects. These doormats cost around $13 to make and add a fun pop to your front door. I made two last week and now just want to make like 7 more. The only trick to this project is buying the RIGHT paint so that it stays and won’t wash off with time.
Patio Paint: I grabbed the patio paint from my local Hobby Lobby for $2.29 but also found it here on Amazon in a bigger bottle for around $7. I was able to do two doormats with one small bottle of paint.
Artist Brush: You’ll need a small artist brush (size depends on what you’re wanting to paint) I got a variety pack on Amazon here that worked out perfectly.
The hardest part was deciding what to paint. I had so many ideas and had to limit them down since well, I only have one front door. You can google “funny doormat” or “cute doormat” to get inspired. Once I had an idea of what I was wanting to do I decided to trace it with a crayola washable marker. But looking back I would NOT recommend doing this. I had to hose down the mat afterwards to get the crayola out and then they take forever to dry. If you’re okay with that wait time, then go for it with the washable marker, but I would probably just go for it with the paint next time! Lol Then I painted! It was so simple and so fun that a few of my local girlfriends and I are planning a doormat making party together.
A popular front door look is to layer your doormats. I personally love this look and purchased a 3×5 outdoor rug to place under my coir doormat. If you need some layering rug inspiration I placed some below.
If you paint a rug, I’d love to see it, send me a DM or tag me in your post!
PS- these Valentino inspired flip flops were gifted to me from a new online shoe store called Traffic Shoes. Everything on their site is under $18.88! You can shop them here
