One of my favorite home decor bloggers to follow is Randi Garret Design. She has a neutral home with warmth of brushed brass and pops of seasonal color (right now blue and I LOVE it). Her family room is especially gorgeous and one of the things that really elevates to the look of the room was her curtains! She has these beautiful brushed brass curtain rods with custom pinch pleat curtains.
They’re to die for…but so is the price. She has them custom made from an etsy shop and I was blown away to learn that to fit our 108″ window, we’d have to spend $674 per panel. PER PANEL. So for the two large windows in our master, the curtains alone would be $2,696. That was larger than the renovation budget for the entire home when we moved in, let alone curtains for one room.
So as I often do, I was on a mission to recreate that custom look, but for much less. I am so excited the way they turned out and dare I say, I even like them more?! I found these brushed brass curtain rods on amazon and then found the matching curtain rings at Bed Bath and Beyond. The curtains were the harder part. I read SO many reviews to find the perfect ones and settled on these from Amazon. I am so in love with them! They are heavy, good quality material and they hang so nicely. At first I was a little surprised that they are a velvety material, but once you hang them, you’re going to love it. The velvety material gives them a weight like custom made curtains have. They are light blocking/ black out curtains, and you actually can’t tell they’re a velvety material until you’re right up against them.
I was watching Pop of Pippi’s stories the other day, another great home blogger who has a more southern style (check out her Instagram here.) And she shared her before and after pictures of using store bought curtains versus her new heavy weight custom curtains. I was blown away how much the window coverings truly elevated her room so dramatically. I’ll drop her pictures below (I just took a screenshot of her stories.) It encouraged me to want to share how I did our curtains with the custom look but for less!
Random tip: there are 8 pinch pleats on each panel and unfortunately, the rings come in pack of 7, so make sure to order one extra pack to have enough rings!
