I have always loved the look of the SMEG fridges (pic below) but my budget on the other hand, says no freaking way. I actually had no clue how much a fridge in general cost until we became homeowners and holy moly… We quickly took the offer for Cody’s parent’s old fridge. And although I’m so appreciative, ugh it’s just not the prettiest. I was playing around with our cabinet pulls and thought maybe we could just replace the handles.
I ended up finding these bars on Amazon. We bought the 12 inch bar for the freezer and bought the 18 inch bar for the fridge door. The total for both was $43.79 (I know amazon prices fluctuate but this is just what we paid!)
Cody had to drill two new holes into the fridge. We kept the holes that were already drilled for the existing handles (top of freezer door and bottom of fridge door.) Then simply added the bars like you would on a wall. Next we had to cover the holes that are on the inside of the door from the old handles. Because they are on the inside (you can only see them when the door is open) he just used epoxy putty then we put some white appliance paint over them.
The whole process took us less than 30 minutes and I’m so excited with the way it came out.
BEFORE: Sorry this is the only picture I can find of the fridge before we switched the handles (people don’t usually have photos of their fridge right?!)
[…] Fridge Handles: This is actually one of my most popular requests so I dedicated an entire blog post to this project. You’ll never guess the secret… towel bars!! Haha you can check out the full blog post here […]
