Before I got pregnant, and even during the first trimester of pregnancy, I was convinced that I would be one of those people who wore what worked in my closet, saved money, and wouldn’t purchase a single “maternity item.” Right about at week 18, my bump popped up (out of nowhere) and suddenly things didn’t seem to fit quite right anymore. Sure, I could squeeze into a handful of my clothes still but nothing was giving me confidence or comfort.
Tops: The tops bubbled up around my chest (from riding up above the bump)
Dresses: My more bodycon-like dresses were stretched so tightly that the back showed off my panty lines (not cute!)
Shorts: I tried pushing my stretchy shorts under the bump and ended up with a saggy crotch look.
Leggings: My leggings all high waisted and squeezed the bump too tightly
The list goes on and on. I was re-wearing the same 3 loose dresses and on colder days, would look like a bum in loose sweatpants and a sweatshirt. I decided it was time to strategically invest in a few maternity staple items that could get me through the remainder of pregnancy. I talked with my sister-in-law and she recommended Kindred Bravely for some high-quality staple pieces.
Okay so yall know I’m a new blogger so I was sooo nervous when I reached out to them and asked if they’d like to collaborate with me to share maternity staples. I shared my story about needing and finding them for maternity staple pieces…. and you guys… they said yes! They’re offering me a 20% off code to share with you guys “Kayllie20” which works for everything on their site except for bundles and clearance items. I would love for you guys to shop through my link: bit.ly/KayllieKB it’s how it let’s Kindred Bravely know that you guys enjoyed this post!
I was instantly drawn to their ribbed bamboo collection for starters. Texas summers are hot and having a comfortable, stretchy, lightweight fabric was a high priority for me. I also wanted to invest in a couple of workout pieces as I was working out in my PJs because I couldn’t find anything that fit me. Here is my rundown of the 5 staple items I purchased:
Gwen Ribbed Bamboo Maternity Midi Dress:
I’ve already worn this dress more times than I can count because it is so so good. It’s crazy how having a dress that is made for maternity can solve all the issues I mentioned above with my existing dresses. It fits so well and it gives me so much confidence showing off the bump. I love that I can wear a normal bra with it too. I would say if you’re looking to just get one item, I’d purchase this one. I may even go back and purchase it in other colors it’s that good. I’m wearing a size small at 22 weeks pregnant and I’m 5’2″ for length reference.
Martina Maternity & Postpartum Support Leggings:
Don’t knock them until you try them. I remember looking at all of that fabric and thinking oh no, this looks awful, but yall… put them on! They’re a total game-changer. The fabric keeps the leggings up and prevents the saggy crotch I mentioned earlier AND it provides support for the bump when working out so you don’t feel like you’re a giggling Santa lol. I’m wearing a size small at 22 weeks pregnant and I’m 5’2″ for length reference.
Cherie Maternity & PostPartum Biker Shorts:
Similar to the leggings, having the fabric over the bump has been the best thing. I wore these to my grandma’s farm and my aunt commented that she had the same experience during her pregnancy where she laughed at all of the extra fabric, then ended up loving it so much. I’m wearing a size small at 22 weeks pregnant but I could have gone with a medium depending on how tight you like your shorts.
Ribbed Bamboo Maternity Midi Skirt:
I wanted a skirt that I could dress up or down and this one does the trick. I have been loving it with a knotted t-shirt on top and when it was cooler, with a sweater. In the photos below, I have it paired with the ribbed bamboo tank. I’m wearing a size small at 22 weeks pregnant and I’m 5’2″ for length reference.
Ribbed Bamboo Maternity Tank:
Tops have been the hardest thing for me to wear so I wanted a top that I could layer and make work for different occasions like work, hanging out, or working out. Having a top that can do all of the above has been a game-changer. I’m wearing a size small for size reference.
