Kennedy’s Tropical Baby Girl Nursery Reveal

Ahh we did it! The One Room Challenge gave us an 8-week timeline to completely transform our guest bedroom into a tropical baby girl nursery. From the wallpapered ceiling to the fluted pipe wall to the Ikea dresser makeover, to the hanging chair, side table, and all of the smaller projects along the way, we truly poured our hearts into this room. We had a blast and it gave us the chance to spend some final days together as husband and wife before we become mom and dad.

The Wallpapered Ceiling:

The ceiling is the star of the show! Most people have an accent wall… we have an accent ceiling. We opted for a woven peel and stick wallpaper from Spoon Flower to create this look. I feel like it MAKES the room and creates the tropical baby girl nursery like I wanted! Fluted Wall:

If the ceiling is the star of the show, the fluted wall is a close second. I loved the look of fluted walls but couldn’t afford the high cost of wooden dowels so I got creative and opted for 1 inch PVC pipes. Dresser:

Ikea dresser hacks and Pinterest go hand in hand! I wanted a way to add give baby girl a beautiful dresser on a budget so I opted for an Ikea dresser hack. I painted the Ikea Malm dresser first with a primer, and then 3 coats of Sherwin Willims “hunt green.” Then we built a simple base and legs using pieces of 2×2 pine and topped it off with the same brushed brass hardware that is in the adjoining bathroom. Hanging Chair:

I bragged about this budget-friendly find on my Instagram but it really is such a good deal. The chair (including cushions and shipping) cost$182 which, compared to the famous Serena and Lily chairs, is quite a steal. The main difference is this hanging chair, meant for a patio, came with an industrial-looking chain. We bought rope for only 42 cents per foot at Lowes and replaced the chain with the rope. It gives the swing a coastal/boho feel. I love how it turned out.

Side Table:

With PVC pipes being 10 feet and our ceiling only being 8, we ended up with 111 pieces of 2-foot pipes. I decided to utilize some of them to make a little side table for the swing. I used a 12-inch concrete form and applied the pipe using liquid nails, then topping it off with a pre-built 18-inch wooden tabletop. I prepped and painted the table using the same method as the fluted wall and love how it turned out.

Along with the major projects, we had a few minor projects along the way such as my Linden lamp dupe and painted flower pot. I hope you loved our tropical baby girl nursery as much as we do!
